Envoy Urges UN Action over Trump's Plan to Arm Anti-Iran Elements

ABNA24 - Tehran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Amir Saeid Iravani asked the global body to adopt measure after US President Donald Trump openly acknowledged that Washington tried to arm militants inside Iran, calling it a clear admission of inciting unrest.

The US has been trying to turn peaceful protests in Iran into violence and bloodshed, Iravani said in a letter to the UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the Security Council.Iravani stressed that arming and supporting armed groups in the territory of another state triggers international responsibility."The Security Council must firmly condemn these dangerous statements," he continued, adding it must "ensure that these violations do not go unanswered and clearly declare that any conduct constituting state support for terrorism will not be tolerated under any circumstances".

He was reacting to Trump's admission that Washington had sent weapons to Iran."We sent guns, a lot of guns. They were supposed to go to the people so they could fight back against these thugs," Trump told reporters at a White House Easter event.Violent rioters attacked the administrative buildings, police and bus stations and mosques in a number of cities across Iran in early January, killing some ordinary people and security forces and inflicting injuries on others.Authorities say evidence shows foreign-backed terror groups distributed weapons, deliberately targeted civilians and security forces, and acted with the direct involvement of the US and Israel.Tehran has stressed that recent violent events in the country represented a continuation of failed plots by Washington and the Zionist regime following the 12-day war, stressing that such endeavours have once again been thwarted by the Iranian nation.

In the letter, Iravani stated that Trump's remarks confirmed Iran's longstanding position that Washington has been fueling instability."Such behavior is in line with the United States' long-standing policy of creating, financing, and arming terrorist groups in the Middle East and beyond," the letter added."It constitutes a flagrant violation of the UN Charter and the fundamental principles and rules of international law," he continued. The envoy stressed that the US bears full responsibility for all losses and suffering inflicted on civilians and civilian infrastructure during the December 2025 and January 2026 unrest."The United States, through its intervention in Iran's internal affairs, arming terrorist elements and groups, and disseminating false casualty figures, pursued a malicious policy against Iran," the ambassador noted.
