AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Iran’s Human Rights Headquarters stated in a statement, “The joint military aggressions of the Zionist regime and the United States, which began again after the twelve-day war on February 28, 2026, in a violent and brutal manner with widespread action against civilians - including high-ranking figures and a large number of civilian citizens, particularly children, in various regions of the country, especially Minab - constitute a continuation of the arbitrary and illegal conduct of the Zionist regime and the United States against the legitimate rights of a nation that has long been subjected to violations through the maximum application of unlawful unilateral coercive measures in pursuit of their political goals and interests.”
The statement adds, “Undoubtedly, targeting civilians, educational centers, health, medical, and relief facilities, industrial complexes, and other civilian infrastructure constitutes a gross violation of international humanitarian law and human rights law.”
The statement continues, “In this context, the tragedy of the Shajareh Tayabeh girls’ school in Minab, resulting in the martyrdom of approximately 170 students, teaching staff, and parents, stands as one of the most regrettable and sorrowful consequences of this illegal aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran. This not only constitutes a clear violation of Article 6 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights but also contravenes the established rules of international humanitarian law, particularly the four Geneva Conventions and their Additional Protocols, which set forth a body of rules for the protection of civilians and the restriction of methods and means of warfare. Under these rules, intentionally attacking civilians or civilian objects is prohibited, and parties to a conflict are obligated to distinguish between military and civilian objectives.”
The statement further adds, “Given the emergency session of the Human Rights Council on March 27, 2026, on the topic of 'Protection of Children and Educational Institutions in International Armed Conflicts: Airstrike on the Shajareh Tayabeh Girls' School in Minab, Iran, as a Gross Violation of International Humanitarian Law and International Human Rights Law,' there exists a rightful expectation from international human rights bodies, particularly the Human Rights Committee, the Committee on the Rights of the Child, the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the Special Rapporteur on the Right to Education, to take serious and effective measures to hold the aggressors accountable, stop the killing of civilians, especially children and students, and ensure compensation for damages. Furthermore, they should ensure transparent and impartial investigation results regarding the Minab girls' school tragedy with the aim of protecting the victims, survivors, and their families, and inform the victims' families and the people of Iran of the outcomes of their proceedings and follow-up.”
