Controversial Message from a Kuwaiti Cleric About the State of His Country / Ayatollah Ma’touq: Freedoms in Kuwait, Reversing

Ayatollah Ma’touq addressed the situation in Kuwait, the suppression of freedoms, and the restriction of freedom of speech in the country, while rejecting the allegations made against him and some detainees.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Ayatollah Hussain Abdullah Ma’touq, a prominent Kuwaiti cleric, spoke in a message about the critical and dangerous phase facing the Islamic world, referring to the confrontation between Islamic values and what he described as the decadence of global powers.

He then turned to the domestic situation in Kuwait, expressing regret over the decline of freedoms, the increase in suppression, and the restriction of freedom of speech due to the policies of the Ministry of Interior and the state security apparatus. He categorically rejected the allegations made against him, some detainees, and others regarding conspiracy and attempted assassination of certain figures in the country, deeming them baseless.

He stated, “Today, speaking the truth has become a crime, and an atmosphere of fear and terror prevents people from voicing facts. Unfortunately, there is neither political security, nor social security, nor intellectual freedom. For the smallest matters and without providing evidence, security charges are leveled against citizens. Even some social customs, such as offering condolences for the passing of a religious authority, have been treated as crimes, while such matters are neither compatible with reason nor with the constitution. As a result, many men and women of various ages have been detained and subjected to the harshest pressures.”

It is worth noting that the Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior has repeatedly claimed over the past weeks to have dismantled networks linked to Hezbollah in the country, detaining dozens of Kuwaiti citizens on these fabricated charges, without providing any evidence to prove any security violations by these Kuwaiti citizens.
