AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The results of several polls in the United States indicate that the majority of American citizens oppose military action against Iran, while dissatisfaction with Donald Trump’s performance in the areas of the economy and foreign policy has increased.
According to a joint poll conducted by Reuters and Ipsos between March 20 and 23, 61 percent of Americans opposed military strikes against Iran, while 35 percent supported such action. This level of opposition has increased compared to the previous week.
This poll also reveals a partisan divide in the United States, with 93 percent of Democrats and 69 percent of independents opposing military action, while 75 percent of Republicans support it.
Meanwhile, the results of a Pew Research Center poll indicate that 59 percent of Americans consider military action against Iran to be the wrong decision, with only 38 percent deeming it correct. A Quinnipiac University poll also shows that 54 percent of registered voters oppose such action.
In terms of security implications, 42 percent of respondents believe that war with Iran will make the world less secure, while 35 percent hold the opposite view. Additionally, 40 percent believe that such action would diminish the security of the United States.
Alongside opposition to war, the level of dissatisfaction with the U.S. president’s performance is also significant. According to an AP-NORC poll, 63 percent of Americans are dissatisfied with Trump’s handling of Iran, and 64 percent disapprove of his performance in foreign policy.
This dissatisfaction is also evident in the realm of trust, with more than half of American citizens stating that they have little or no confidence in Trump’s decisions on matters such as the use of military force, relations with allies, and even nuclear weapons.
The results also show that 62 percent of Americans oppose sending ground troops to Iran, and approximately half oppose providing financial aid to the Israeli military.
On the economic front, rising fuel prices have become a major concern for the American people. Approximately 46 percent of respondents stated that gasoline prices have become a serious problem for them, and 45 percent expressed concern about their ability to afford fuel in the coming months.
In this regard, only 25 percent of Americans approve of Trump’s handling of the cost of living, while 66 percent disapprove. Additionally, approval of his economic performance has declined to 29 percent, the lowest recorded level.
According to these polls, Trump’s overall approval rating among American citizens has declined to 36 percent, the lowest level since his return to the U.S. presidency.
