AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The Kelantan Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIK), in cooperation with the Kelantan branch of the Malaysian Islamic Association of the Blind (Pertis), has expanded a Braille Quran education program at a newly established training center near the city of Kota Bharu in Malaysia.
Mohammad Razam Tengku Abdul Aziz, chairman of the Kelantan Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council, announced that the program is being held at the Pertis Quran Education Center in the Kampung Bunut Payung area. He said, “Previously, Quran classes were conducted in a rented building in Padang Mokan, but since December last year they have been relocated to a new, more suitable and better-equipped facility in Bunut Payung.”
He added that the Kelantan council has donated four e-Braille devices, which function like computers for the blind, along with two Braille typewriters to facilitate teaching and learning.
Razam explained that the equipment was developed through research by a lecturer at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and enables blind users to read text, type, and receive audio content as well.
He also announced the appointment of a blind religious teacher, Wan Mohammad Fazil Wan Pauzi, noting, “This step will help ensure the classes are conducted continuously and effectively, making the process of Quran education for the blind easier.”
According to the report, the new center currently serves 22 blind Quran students aged between 23 and 72, who are being trained under the supervision of three blind instructors. Officials hope the initiative will expand access to religious knowledge for the visually impaired and strengthen their participation in educational activities.
