Iran envoy in Geneva slams Western hypocrisy toward Iranian security forces

Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva Ali Bahraini criticized the stance of certain Western governments for failing to condemn terrorism while instead targeting Iran’s security forces, describing this as clear hypocrisy.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva Ali Bahraini criticized the stance of certain Western governments for failing to condemn terrorism while instead targeting Iran’s security forces, describing this as clear hypocrisy.

Bahraini hosted a briefing on Monday, attended by ambassadors and representatives from various countries to discuss recent developments in Iran.

Providing a comprehensive report on the course of events since December 28, he explained that the initial demonstrations began peacefully among merchants, business owners, and economic activists.

According to Bahraini, the Iranian government responded promptly through dialogue and corrective measures. However, organized armed and terrorist elements later infiltrated the protests, steering them toward violence, including shootings targeting civilians and security forces.

He emphasized that Iranian authorities deliberately avoided security measures and have distinguished between ordinary citizens and violent organized groups. President Masoud Pezeshkian instructed that no security action be taken against peaceful protesters and called for compassion toward detainees, he added.

The Iranian envoy described these actions as part of a broader strategy, including the 12-day war, aimed at provoking foreign intervention and destabilizing Iran.

Bahraini also cited statements by US and Israeli officials, including remarks by former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Israeli media outlets, as proof of direct foreign involvement. He condemned such actions as blatant violations of Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Moreover, the ambassador outlined Iran’s judicial process, underscoring that no sentence can be implemented without full legal due process.

Bahraini rejected calls for a special session of the UN Human Rights Council as politically motivated and urged friendly nations to oppose such initiatives. He also clarified that temporary internet restrictions were imposed solely for public security reasons.

Other diplomats expressed solidarity with the Iranian people, condemned foreign interference in Iran’s internal affairs, and rejected the politicization of UN human rights mechanisms.
