AhlulBayt News Agency: Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has praised Iran’s relations with the Persian Gulf nation of Oman, saying the two neighbors are eager to develop their bilateral cooperation and work jointly to bring peace and stability to the West Asia region.
Araghchi made the remarks in a joint press conference with his Omani counterpart, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al-Busaidi, who arrived in Tehran at the head of a delegation on Saturday.
Stating that Iran and Oman have deep-rooted historical and cultural bonds, Araghchi said the current high-level visit is yet another testament to closer relations between the two countries. “We have had good historical ties and are ready to expand them further based on mutual respect and benefits,” he added.
Referring to the talks, he said the Iranian and Omani delegations reviewed regional and international developments, including those related to Palestine, Yemen, Lebanon and Syria, stressing the need for cooperation to accomplish peace, security and stability, especially in the Persian Gulf region.
The top Iranian diplomat, while presenting the outcome of his recent visit to Lebanon, also called for the immediate halt to Israel’s genocide and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip.
Emphasizing Iran’s long-standing approach towards establishing and strengthening relations with its neighbors, as well as hindering foreign plots to sow discord in the region, Araghchi commended Oman’s constructive mediations to resolve disputes. “Similarly, we appreciate the role of Muscat and Badr al-Busaidi during the indirect talks between Iran and the United States, which were unfortunately ended with the American aggression,” he added.
In response to a question regarding the Israeli divisive agenda in the region and beyond, the Iranian foreign minister said both Tehran and Muscat are against the separation of Yemen and would not allow the Israeli regime to accomplish its goal of parting and weakening the regional countries. “Such a plot will lead to insecurity and instability,” he warned.
Reiterating Iran's support for sovereignty and territorial integrity of Yemen, Araghchi said that all countries, including Syria and Lebanon, must be immune from any foreign interference and the people there must decide their fate and overcome internal affairs by themselves.
