Gaza officials report mass killings during aid distribution

Palestinian officials report hundreds killed and thousands injured while seeking aid in Gaza due to Israeli gunfire. Nearly 100,000 people have died since October 2023, according to researchers.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Palestinian authorities in Gaza have released disturbing statistics about civilians who were shot and killed by Israeli forces while waiting in line for humanitarian assistance.

On Tuesday, Palestinian officials condemned the continuous Israeli assaults on civilians seeking food and aid throughout Gaza.

The Government Media Office in Gaza reported that around 580 Palestinians were killed and over 4,200 others were injured due to Israeli attacks targeting aid seekers.

The office held Israel and its key allies—the US, the UK, France, and Germany—morally and legally accountable for backing what it described as the systematic extermination of Gaza’s civilian population.

It also called on the international community to pressure Israel to lift its blockade, open the border crossings, and allow immediate humanitarian aid into Gaza to prevent further tragedy.

This announcement followed Israeli media reports claiming that soldiers had been ordered by their commanders to shoot at unarmed Palestinians waiting for aid.

In response, various UN agencies condemned the joint US-Israeli food distribution mechanisms in Gaza, describing them as deadly and dangerous.

Meanwhile, researchers estimate nearly 100,000 Palestinians have died since the onset of what they labeled as Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza in October 2023.

This estimate came from a study conducted by University of London economist Professor Michael Spagat and Palestinian analyst Khalil Shikaki, who surveyed 2,000 households representing about 10,000 individuals in Gaza.

According to their findings, by January 2025, at least 75,200 people had died violently, primarily due to Israeli weaponry, with another 8,540 dying from non-violent causes.

Since January, the Gaza Health Ministry has reported an additional 10,000 deaths, pushing the total number of fatalities close to 100,000.

The new death toll suggests that the actual extent of the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza far exceeds official counts, driven by war, starvation, disease, and attacks at food distribution points.
