AhlulBayt News Agency: Amir Saeed Iravani, Iran’s Permanent Representative and Ambassador to the United Nations, reaffirmed Tehran’s right to defend its national sovereignty in response to what he called blatant aggression by the United States and Israel.
During an emergency session requested by Iran at the UN Security Council, Iravani urged the 15-member body to address what he described as an “unlawful and provocative” attack by the United States targeting Iranian nuclear facilities.
According to Mehr, he argued that Iran’s actions are purely defensive, while accusing Washington of actively supporting terrorism in the region. He rejected American allegations against Iran as baseless and politically motivated, not grounded in international law.
Recalling the assassination of General Qassem Soleimani by U.S. forces, Iravani labeled it a terrorist act against an official commander of the Islamic Republic’s IRGC Quds Force, further pointing to it as evidence of U.S. hypocrisy.
He claimed the U.S. attacks stemmed from European and IAEA pressures, specifically singling out Britain, France, Germany, and the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency for what he called "biased behavior." According to Iravani, Iran was preparing for renewed diplomatic talks when Israel initiated strikes—disrupting diplomacy just as it was gaining momentum.
“Our Foreign Minister was engaged in dialogue with the European Troika when the U.S. struck. How can we return to the table when we never left it?” Iravani asked.
He concluded by emphasizing that Iran, as a sovereign and peace-seeking nation, had consistently warned the United States against escalating the crisis. He declared that Iran’s response to this aggression—its timing, scale, and form—would be determined by the country’s armed forces, in full accordance with international law.
