Iran condemns US sanctions, calls them illegal and politically motivated

Iran has condemned the latest US sanctions, calling them illegal and politically motivated, and accusing Washington of deep hostility toward the Iranian people. Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei stated that the measures violate international law, serving as part of Washington’s failed “maximum pressure” campaign.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Iran has strongly condemned the latest US sanctions, calling them illegal and politically motivated, and accusing Washington of deep hostility toward the Iranian people.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei issued a statement on Saturday, denouncing the US Treasury’s sanctions, which target dozens of individuals and companies allegedly linked to Iran’s commercial and banking sectors.

Baghaei described the sanctions as unlawful, stating that they violate international legal norms and are part of Washington’s failed “maximum pressure” campaign against Iran.

“These sanctions are not only illegal but also reflect the deep and persistent hostility of the US government toward the Iranian nation,” Baghaei said.

He added that the measures were designed to increase pressure on ordinary Iranian citizens, depriving them of basic human rights and economic opportunities.

Baghaei asserted that such actions will only strengthen Iran’s resolve to defend its legitimate rights and national interests against Washington’s excessive demands.

The sanctions come despite ongoing Omani-mediated indirect talks between Iran and the US since April, with Tehran insisting that negotiations must lead to the removal of illegal measures.

Iran has also emphasized that it will continue leveraging alternative strategies to bypass the sanctions if Washington chooses to maintain or intensify them instead of pursuing diplomacy.
