Israeli artillery strikes Yarmouk Basin in Syria following rocket claims

Israeli artillery struck Syria’s Yarmouk Basin following claims that two rockets were fired toward the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. The UN condemned Israel’s ongoing violations of the 1974 ceasefire agreement.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Israeli artillery units struck an area in Syria’s southwestern province of Dara’a, causing significant material damage, following claims that two rockets were fired from the region toward the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

The Syrian news agency SANA reported that Israeli forces targeted the Yarmouk Basin area in western Dara’a with artillery fire late Tuesday but did not provide further details.

While no casualties were reported, the agency described the destruction as extensive.

The Israeli public broadcaster KAN stated that two rockets were launched from Dara’a, landing in an open area in the Golan Heights. The origin of the projectiles remains unclear.

Israeli Channel 13 confirmed that air raid sirens were activated in the Golan Heights due to the launches, but no injuries or damage were reported as the rockets fell in open areas.

According to Yedioth Ahronoth, warning sirens were sounded in the communities of Haspin and Ramat Magshimim in the southern Golan Heights.

Residents in the affected areas reported hearing explosions shortly after the sirens were triggered.

The Israeli army stated that its artillery “struck in southern Syria” in response to the projectiles launched toward Israeli-occupied territory.

Militant factions, led by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, toppled Bashar al-Assad’s government on December 8, 2024.

Since Assad’s downfall, the Israeli military has conducted airstrikes against military installations, facilities, and arsenals belonging to Syria’s now-defunct army.

Israel has faced widespread condemnation for terminating the 1974 ceasefire agreement with Syria and for exploiting the instability in the country to seize land.

The United Nations has denounced ongoing Israeli attacks inside Syrian territory and continued violations in and around the buffer zone established under the 1974 ceasefire agreement with Damascus.
