AhlulBayt News Agency: The prime minister made the remarks on his official X account on Tuesday, a day after he met in Tehran with Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian.
“Pakistan values Iran’s role in the Muslim Ummah (Nation) and looks forward to advancing mutual goals of peace, development, and harmony,” Sharif wrote.
In the same post, the Pakistani official expressed his appreciation concerning his meeting with the Leader, noting how he had sought Ayatollah Khamenei’s “views especially with regards to the current challenges faced by the Muslim Ummah (Nation).”
“We also exchanged views on bilateral and regional issues of mutual interests.”
Sharif said he had expressed gratitude towards the Leader for the Islamic Republic’s offering to mediate during the escalation that began between Pakistan and India last month as well as Tehran’s expression of concern for his country’s security.
In the same context, he thanked Iran for a May 4 visit to Islamabad by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi that marked Tehran’s endeavor towards promoting regional peace amid the tensions.
The meeting in Tehran saw the Leader praise Pakistan’s firm position on Palestine, and Islamabad's resistance against pressures to normalize ties with the Israeli regime.
Ayatollah Khamenei told Sharif, “There have always been temptations for Muslim countries in recent years to establish relations with the Zionist regime, but Pakistan has never been impacted by these temptations.”
Calling for “joint and effective” action to stop the Israeli crimes in the Gaza Strip, the Leader also noted that the global Muslim Nation enjoyed untapped potentials to use towards standing against the world’s warmongering powers.
At a joint press conference held during the Pakistani PM's visit following a separate meeting with Pezeshkian, the chief executive stressed that the Iran-Pakistan border had to remain free from insecurity and terrorism.
He also hailed the historical ties between Tehran and Islamabad and welcomed peaceful resolution of disputes between India and Pakistan, noting, “The settlement of disputes through dialogue and peaceful methods is a prerequisite for sustainable development and security.”
Commenting on the meting with the Iranian president, Sharif noted that he had “reaffirmed Pakistan’s continued commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation with Iran for peace, prosperity, and regional stability and for the mutual benefit of peoples of both countries.”
Sharif’s visit to Iran is part of a four-nation regional tour that began in Turkey and will also include Azerbaijan and Tajikistan.
According to Islamabad, the tour is focused on fostering stronger bilateral ties and addressing shared security and economic concerns in the broader West and South Asian regions.
