AhlulBayt News Agency: The Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) has called for global sanctions on Israel as the regime continues its war against Palestinians in Gaza.
The PUIC concluded its 19th conference in Jakarta, issuing the “Jakarta Declaration.” The document reaffirmed support for the Palestinian cause and urged intensified international pressure on Israel, including sanctions and diplomatic isolation in global forums.
The declaration was adopted by parliamentary delegations from OIC member states, emphasizing the central importance of the Palestinian issue and Al-Quds Al-Sharif for the Muslim world. It reiterated that East al-Quds remains an integral part of the 1967 occupied Palestinian territories and is the rightful capital of a future Palestinian state.
Delegates expressed alarm over Israel’s ongoing military offensive in Gaza, stating that at least 53,119 people, mostly women and children, have been killed since the conflict began in October 2023.
The statement referenced the International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) provisional order issued on January 26, 2024, and the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Minister of Military Affairs Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The declaration condemned Israel’s indiscriminate and disproportionate attacks, stating that they have continued unabated.
The PUIC called for an immediate halt to Israeli attacks and demanded the release of Palestinian prisoners, particularly women and children unlawfully detained by Israeli forces.
The document also rejected any Israeli attempts to annex parts of Gaza, arguing that such actions under the pretext of security concerns or captive retrieval are unacceptable. It further denounced forced displacement of Palestinians.
In an appeal to the international community, the PUIC encouraged governments to impose sanctions on Israel, urging them to adhere to the ICJ advisory opinions and support ongoing investigations by the ICC.
Additionally, the PUIC called for continued humanitarian aid to Palestinians, stressing the importance of supporting relief efforts through the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).
