UNRWA chief warns Gaza aid is insufficient amid worsening crisis

UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini has warned that the aid reaching Gaza is vastly insufficient. He emphasized that at least 500 to 600 aid trucks per day are needed to prevent further humanitarian disaster. The crisis has persisted for over 11 weeks due to Israel’s blockade.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, has described the humanitarian aid currently reaching Gaza as “a needle in a haystack.”

In a post on X, Lazzarini highlighted the catastrophic humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, which has persisted since Israeli occupation forces closed the border crossings on March 2.

He noted that Palestinians in Gaza have endured hunger, deprivation, and the denial of basic life necessities for more than 11 weeks due to Israel’s ongoing military campaign.

Lazzarini stressed that the aid currently entering Gaza is insufficient, comparing it to a needle in a haystack. He emphasized that only a continuous and effective flow of aid can prevent the worsening of the crisis.

He further explained that the absolute minimum required to meet humanitarian needs is between 500 to 600 aid trucks per day, managed through the United Nations, including UNRWA.
