AhlulBayt News Agency – An international conference on the role of media in fostering tolerance and peaceful coexistence was held earlier this week in Cairo, Egypt, under the organization of the Arab League.
Arab League’s Assistant Secretary General and Head of Media and Communication, Ahmad Khattabi, stated that the event was part of the implementation of a cooperation protocol signed in 2024 between the Arab League and the Union of Radio and Television of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Khattabi emphasized that the forum’s theme reflected both organizations’ commitment to combating hate speech and rejecting violence, aligning with UN objectives and General Assembly resolutions on interfaith dialogue and efforts to counter hate speech.
He highlighted joint efforts to end the ongoing conflict in Gaza, calling on the international community to act urgently against the killing and starvation caused by extremist Israeli occupation forces that incite hatred and violate humanitarian values.
Additionally, Khattabi warned about the growing role of social media in both enabling free expression and spreading hate speech. He urged collective action among governments, civil society, educators, and religious leaders to address the misuse of media platforms.
Finally, he reaffirmed the Arab League’s commitment, under Article 8 of its Charter, to promoting tolerance, pluralism, and brotherhood while rejecting discrimination, extremism, and any incitement to hatred or violence.
