AhlulBayt News Agency: Amid rising tensions in the West Bank and the increasing frequency of Israeli military raids across the occupied territories, Israeli forces have fatally shot a Palestinian man in the Old City of al-Quds, alleging that he attempted to stab occupation troops.
Israeli police and medics reported that a 25-year-old Israeli police officer was moderately wounded on Friday after being stabbed in the back.
The alleged attacker was shot and wounded by another Israeli policeman and a Border Police officer before being declared dead at the scene.
The wounded Israeli officer was taken to the hospital for treatment, according to medics.
Following the incident, Israeli occupation forces deployed reinforcements and sealed off Bab al-Silsila (Chain Gate) leading to al-Aqsa Mosque. Several checkpoints were set up, further restricting Palestinian movement in the area.
Israeli security officials identified the alleged attacker as a resident of Beit Hanina neighborhood in East al-Quds.
Footage from the scene showed the Palestinian lying on the ground with blood visible beneath his body.
Since the beginning of the war on Gaza in October 2023, at least 962 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces and illegal settlers, while over 7,000 others have been injured in the West Bank, according to Palestinian reports.
In July 2024, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruled that Israel’s prolonged occupation of Palestinian territories is illegal, ordering the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East al-Quds.
