Hamas condemns Israeli assassination of journalist Hassan Esleih in Gaza, call it Zionist sadism

Hamas has condemned the Israeli assassination of journalist Hassan Esleih while he was receiving treatment at Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, describing it as a “new war crime reflecting Zionist sadism.”

AhlulBayt News Agency: Hamas has condemned the Israeli assassination of journalist Hassan Esleih while he was receiving treatment at Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, describing it as a “new war crime reflecting Zionist sadism.”

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Hamas declared that the Israeli occupation forces carried out a cowardly assassination against Esleih, targeting him directly while he was recovering from injuries sustained in a previous Israeli bombing that struck a journalists’ tent in Khan Yunis.

Hamas asserted that this assassination reflects a systematic effort to eliminate free voices and silence the truth, showing complete disregard for human and legal values.

The Movement further stated that this crime is a blatant violation of international and humanitarian laws. It accused the Israeli occupation of moral and media bankruptcy, arguing that the assassination exposes the falsity of Israel’s claims before the world and confirms its reliance on terrorism and physical liquidation of those who expose its crimes—especially journalists.

Hamas mourned Esleih as a martyr and emphasized that targeting journalists will not silence the truth. The Movement affirmed that Palestinian journalists will continue to convey the just narrative of their people and expose the atrocities committed by the occupation.

With Esleih’s assassination, the number of Palestinian journalists killed since the start of Israel’s military aggression against Gaza has risen to 215.

Hamas called on the international community, including press and human rights institutions, to take urgent action against Israel’s crimes targeting Palestinian journalists. It urged the imposition of deterrent sanctions on Israeli leaders and demanded the severance of all political and media ties with Israel, arguing that it poses a threat to press freedom and humanity as a whole.

Esleih was assassinated by Israeli occupation forces early Tuesday morning at the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Yunis, where he had been recovering for 37 days from injuries sustained in a previous attack.
