AhlulBayt News Agency: Dozens of activists entered the University of Washington’s Interdisciplinary Engineering Building before its closure at 5 p.m. on Monday, calling for an end to the university’s partnership with Boeing, which has supplied military equipment to Israel, according to ABC News.
The demonstrators, members of Students United for Palestinian Equality & Return, demanded that the university sever ties with corporations involved in Israel’s military actions in Gaza. A spokesperson for the group emphasized that the university must take ethical and responsible action regarding its collaborations.
In response, the University of Washington issued a statement warning that some protesters had obstructed entryways to the building with furniture and could face legal and disciplinary consequences. University officials noted that some demonstrators concealed their faces during the protest.
Boeing, one of the largest U.S. defense contractors, provided the highest number of guided bombs and munitions to Israel between 2021 and 2023. The corporation also signed a $5.2 billion agreement to sell 25 next-generation F-15 fighter jets to Israel, further fueling concerns among activists over its role in the conflict.
