AhlulBayt News Agency: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi paid an official visit to Islamabad, where he met with Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari to discuss bilateral relations, security developments, and the condemnation of Israeli atrocities in Gaza.
According to a statement from the Pakistani presidential office, the meeting focused on expanding diplomatic ties between Tehran and Islamabad while addressing regional security challenges. President Zardari emphasized the historical and brotherly bonds between the two nations and expressed Pakistan's willingness to enhance collaborative efforts.
According to IRNA, Araqchi’s visit came amid heightened tensions between Pakistan and India following last month's deadly attack on tourists in Pahalgam, located in India-administered Kashmir. India has accused Pakistan of involvement in the incident. In response, President Zardari voiced concern over what he described as India's aggressive approach, reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to diplomacy and peaceful dialogue.
During the talks, Araqchi urged restraint among regional actors and called for a de-escalation of tensions in South Asia.
The two officials also discussed the ongoing war and humanitarian crisis in Gaza, strongly condemning Israeli violations against Palestinians in both Gaza and the occupied West Bank.
Araqchi reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to its long-standing relationship with Pakistan, expressing Tehran’s eagerness to enhance trade and economic cooperation between the two countries. He also highlighted the importance of continued regional collaboration, particularly regarding Afghanistan.
Following the diplomatic discussions, Araqchi concluded his one-day visit to Islamabad and departed for Tehran later in the day.
