Druze leaders demand action after violence near Damascus

Violent clashes erupted in Jaramana near Damascus, leaving three dead and eight injured after religious tensions escalated over a viral offensive voice message against the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Syrian Druze leaders called for unity and government action as the army moved reinforcements to the region to address the unrest.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Heavy clashes broke out in Jaramana city, near Damascus, early Tuesday morning, leaving three dead and eight injured. The fighting involved armed groups from Eastern Ghouta and Druze factions, with reports of intense gunfire using a variety of weapons, including machine guns.

Videos widely shared online showed the severity of the conflict, with loud shooting audible throughout the area. Syrian media reported that the army deployed significant reinforcements to Jaramana, engaging Druze fighters along the town's "Al-Naseem" border.

The clashes were reportedly triggered by religious tensions after a voice message insulting the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be upon Him) went viral, allegedly attributed to a Druze sheikh. The situation escalated further as tensions spread, following previous violent encounters between students from As Suwayda and other regions in Homs City, and the arrest of two As Suwayda youths by security forces.

The Syrian Druze group "The Syrian Brigade Party" called on their community to prepare to defend their homes and cities in As Suwayda province. They criticized the regime of Ahmad Shar’a for failing to address ongoing tensions in Jaramana, accusing it of neglecting strange activities in the area.

Religious leaders of the Druze community in Jaramana issued a statement condemning derogatory remarks about the Prophet Muhammad, emphasizing that the voice message aimed to incite division. They demanded that the government take responsibility for ensuring the protection of citizens and property, urging public officials to clarify the events.

The leaders highlighted that most of the casualties were members of the city's public security organization. They called for unity and immediate action to prevent further violence and protect the community from escalating unrest.
