AhlulBayt News Agency: Hujjat al-Islam Seyyed Abul-Qasim Razavi, the Friday Prayer Imam of Melbourne, Australia and the Chairman of the Council of Shiite Scholars, has issued a message of condolences to the Christian community following the death of Pope Francis, the leader of the Catholic World.
The message states: Pope Francis was an educated figure who, with a humane and inter-religious perspective, provided a suitable space for dialogue, understanding and mutual respect among religions and opened a new path in interfaith relations.
Referring to Pope Francis' valuable stances in supporting the oppressed Palestinian people, the Chairman of the Council of Shiite Scholars of Australia emphasized,” His support for the voice of the Palestinian people demanding justice was an indication of his justice-seeking spirit and awakened conscience; A spirit that transcended the boundaries of religion, and nationality and focused on human dignity.”
He also considered Pope Francis' historic meeting with the highest Shiite authority, Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Husseini Al-Sistani, a turning point in the history of interfaith dialogue, adding,” This historic meeting was not only a sign of mutual respect and constructive dialogue, but also a lasting model for peaceful coexistence among religions in the world.”
In conclusion, while expressing sympathy with the followers of the Catholic Church and the international community, he expressed hope that the future leader of this religious institution would also continue the path of Pope Francis, taking steps to promote peace, justice, and coexistence among nations.
