(AhlulBayt News Agency) - An Iranian Qari attended the Friday prayers in Moscow on Friday and recited verses from the Holy Quran at the event.
Hundreds of Russian Muslim worshippers taking part in the Friday prayers listened to Nosratollah Hosseini’s recitation on the 9th day of the holy month of Ramadan, the website of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) reported.
His recitation came after coordination between the Iranian Cultural Center in Moscow and the Russian Muftiat (directorate for managing the spiritual affairs of Muslims).
Russia’s grand Mufti sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin and Kazakhstan’s Chief Mufti Serikbay Kazhy Oraz were present when he performed his recitation.
Hosseini is in Russia during the holy month in coordination with the International Center for Tabligh (religious propagation).
He will recite Quran at mosques and Islamic centers in Moscow and other cities during his stay.
During Ramadan, Muslims fast as an effective way of practicing self-discipline. They are also expected to strengthen their character through self-restraint, charitable-giving and introspection.
Reading, reciting and contemplating the Holy Quran is also a major activity for Muslims during the holy month.
