Pakistan Underlines Iran's Vital Role in Solving Syrian Crisis

A senior Pakistani legislator underlined Iran's crucial role in the region and the world, specially in resolving the crisis in Syria.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Iran is playing a positive role in resolving the crisis in Syria, Senator Abdul Nabi Bangash of Awami National Party (ANP) said on Saturday.

The US is behind the unrest in Syria. “After ruining Iraq and Afghanistan they have turned Syria into a battle field,” Bangash added.

The US cannot accept democratic governments in the Middle-East, that is why they are supporting kingdoms in the Arab world. “They want one-man show,” he viewed.

Late in May, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov revealed that he had discussed Iran's involvement in a conference to resolve the crisis in Syria, when he met his US counterpart John Kerry earlier in May, stressing that the conference cannot succeed without Iran's participation.

The Russians and Americans agreed during Kerry's visit to Moscow to set up a conference of international players to end the crisis in Syria. Moscow wants to involve all the nations which took part in the Geneva conference on Syria last summer, and says without Iran's participation the conference cannot succeed.

"If we admit that Iran has a very solid influence on what is going on, then it is obliged to be represented in the negotiations as a participant in the 'external ring' (of neighboring states)," Lavrov said. "I said this to John Kerry…"

In mid-June, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyed Abbas Araqchi said that Tehran is still undecided about taking part in the upcoming Geneva II conference in Switzerland in July.

"The Islamic Republic will decide about taking part in the Geneva II conference after the plans, date and agenda of the international event are announced," Araqchi said at the time.
