(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - On 4 August 2014, the Saudi authorities released the Shiite poet and photographer Habeeb Ali al-M’ateeq, from Al-Rabeeya town in Qatif.
Habeeb al-M’ateeq was detained in February 2012 at his workplace in “SABIC” (Saudi Basic Industries Corporation) in Jubail city in the Eastern province by members of Saudi Directorate of General Investigations (al-Mabahith al-’Amma).
On 1 April 2012, he was fired from the company.
On 2 June 2014, the Court of Appeal in Riyadh, uphold the sentences of jail against him two years in prison.
Al-M’ateeq worked as a webmaster for the al-Fajr Cultural Network website, which has reported on the ongoing protests in Qatif.
The website was shut down after al-Maatiq’s arrest.
