The United States and Saudi Arabia are the main supporters of the terrorists belonging to the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), a senior Iranian lawmaker says.
“Although the US and Saudi Arabia claim that they are against the ISIL, these two countries are in fact the main supporters of the ISIL,” Chairman of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Alaeddin Boroujerdi said on Monday.
He added that the presence of the ISIL Takfiri militants in Iraq is another attempt by the US and its allies to avenge their defeat in Syria which failed once again after a fatwa was issued by Iraq’s top Shia cleric, Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani.
On June 13, Ayatollah Sistani called on the Iraqi people to take up arms and defend their country against Takfiri militants belonging to the ISIL. Iraqi media say more than two million people have so far voiced their readiness to join the fight.
Boroujerdi emphasized that the Iraqi government, nation and religious authority have the ability to solve the crisis and problems caused by the ISIL Takfiri militants.
On Sunday, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei expressed Iran’s strong opposition to US interference in Iraq’s internal affairs.
“We are strongly against the interference of the US and others in Iraq’s internal affairs and do not approve of it, because we believe that the Iraqi government, nation and religious authorities are capable of ending this sedition and will end it, God willing,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.
Since June 10, Iraq has witnessed a fresh wave of violence fueled by the ISIL terrorists. The militants have overrun most of one province and parts of three others north of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.
