Iraq: 21 persons killed, injured in Kadhimiya

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - 21 persons were killed and injured due to car bomb targeted police center in Kadhimiya town of northern Baghdad.  Security source said on Sunday "Car bomb driven by a suicide bomber exploded this morning targeting police center in Kadhimiya, thus resulted in killing four people and wounding 17 others.""Security force cordoned off the explosion area and transported the dead bodies to the morgue while the injured were sent to a hospital for treatment," the source added. On Saturday, another car bomb explosion claimed the lives of four people and injured 20 others, including children, near a clinic in Al-Amin District in southeast Baghdad.Violence has spiked in Iraq in recent weeks, and UN Ambassador to Iraq Martin Kobler has warned that “systemic violence is ready to explode at any moment.”Kobler has also urged Iraq’s political leaders to “engage immediately to pull the country out of this mayhem.”On June 1, the United Nations said a total of 1,045 people were killed and nearly 2,400 others injured in violent incidents in Iraq in May.Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has said that militant groups and the remnants of the former Ba’athist regime are responsible for the latest wave of violence. /129
