When they come to town they cannot drive a car and this is extremely annoying.”He severely criticized the deprivation of Saudi Arabian women from the right to driving, and said that not everyone can afford a driver in Saudi Arabia.
“A chauffeur is expensive and not everyone can afford one,” he added. The Saudi Arabian prince also posed the question that how did Wahhabist scholars would accept a stranger to roam freely in people’s houses round-the-clock until they may be needed, while they have banned women driving.
“Are not they the same people who consider the mingling of men and women sinful?” he asked. Saudi Arabia King’s step-brother asserted that “do we do this for suspicion for our wives? Do we not trust our wives? Women security is first guaranteed by God and then by their honor and chastity, not such limitations.”
Saudi Arabia is the only country where women’s driving is banned. Women are illegible for handling their affairs without a client or guardian in Saudi Arabia so that a woman with no client or guardian cannot have a passport, travel abroad, or use the internet!
In 2011 Saudi women intentionally disdained the law and drove cars downtown in demonstration against prohibition of driving for women. They submitted a petition to the King signed by 3500 Saudi women, in which they demanded the rule be annulled. In reaction to the demonstrations, the House of Saud arrested 47 of the “outlaws.”
