Muslim World’s Quran Institutes Urged to Benefit from Experiences of Iran, Malaysia

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Mazar Muhammad Ali Hassan Al-Sahaf added that Quranic interactions among Islamic countries will also promote fraternity among Muslims.“Quranic institutes in the Muslim countries should work to enhance cooperation and interaction in Quranic fields.”He referred to the Holy Quran as a pivot of unity among Muslims, saying “We may see differences among Muslims in Fiqh (jurisprudence) and marginal issues but when it comes to the Holy Quran, every Muslim believes in it and the Holy Book is the main basis of unity for Muslims.”Asked about Quran memorization and recitation methods in Iraq, Al-Sahaf said learning the Quran by heart in groups is an effective way, and that is the method that is popular in the country.He noted that since the collapse of the Ba’thist regime of Iraq, there has been an outstanding growth in the level of Quran memorization and recitation in the country. “There are now good Quran memorizers and reciters in Iraq who have won top ranks in international Quran competitions.”The Tajweed and Quranic sciences expert noted that Iraq’s representatives in the recent edition of Iran’s international Quran contest came second in the categories of memorization and recitation and an Iraqi took home the first prize in Malaysia’s international Quran competition.Asked whether innovation and introducing new recitation methods are important for Quran reciters, the Iraqi expert said every reciter first starts learning by imitation of prominent reciters of the Muslim world, but after some time should try to come up with his own style.He also said that using new technologies is helpful in Quran education and facilitates training Quran reciters and memorizers.Al-Sahaf went on to urge Quran institutes and activists to strive to promote the Quranic culture and the teachings of the Holy Book in society. /129
