(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The higher Islamic council and the council of Islamic affairs, waqf and sites in the occupied city of Jerusalem, issued on Tuesday a statement commemorating the 43rd anniversary of the arson attack on the Aqsa Mosque.
"The Muslim nations around the world still remember the burning of the Aqsa Mosque that happened on august 21, 1969," their statement said.
"It is the anniversary of that malevolent ominous aggression, but the fires are still successive against this Aqsa Mosque in different ways, including the racist demagogic break-ins by the extremist Jewish groups and parties, and Israeli soldiers in army uniform in addition to the excavations that endanger the foundations of the Mosque," the statement added.
The statement underlined that non-Muslims had nothing to do with the Aqsa Mosque throughout the history and the Jews have no single right to it.
The statement appealed to the UNESCO to assume its responsibilities in this regard and stop Israel from destroying the Islamic humanitarian heritage in Jerusalem.
The arson attack on the Al Aqsa mosque was committed by Michael Dennis Rohan, an Australian Christian extremist. On August 21, 1969, Rohan walked into the mosque, threw gasoline over the Mosque's pulpit and set it alight.
Rohan, a member of an evangelical sect who lived in an Israeli kibbutz, attempted to burn the Mosque in order to hasten the second coming of Jesus and help Jews rebuild their alleged temple, according to his belief.
