(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The longest serving Syrian prisoner in the Israeli occupation jails has been freed after 27 years behind bars. He was released and returned to his home town in the occupied Golan Heights.
After 27 years of unfair imprisonment and detention on charges of resisting the Israeli occupation Makt finally embraces freedom and returns to his home.
Israeli forces detained Sadki al-Makt, 45, from the Golan Heights on Aug. 23, 1985. He was charged with establishing a resistance movement against Israel's occupation of the Syrian territory and participating in anti-occupation activities.
An Israeli military court sentenced al-Makt to 27 years, and he has served his sentence in various jails in Israel.
Al-Makt hails from Majdal Shams, the largest town in the Golan Heights, which Israel had captured from Syria in the 1967 Six-Day War and unilaterally annexed in 1981.
