(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Alma-Ata, May 27, Interfax - The Muslim Union of Kazakhstan and the Muslim Committee on Human Rights in Central Asia have demanded that Russian Consulate General employee Andrey Mamayev, whose electric car hit a four-year-old girl at an amusement park of Alma-Ata, be declared persona non grata and be expelled from the republic.
The authors of an appropriate letter, which was forwarded to Kazakh Foreign Minister Yerzhan Kazykhanov, think that "the crime committed by Mamayev on the territory of Kazakhstan, as a result of which a four-year-old child was hurt, makes his further stay in the country impossible."
"Kazakh citizens were deeply outraged by the Russian diplomat's intention to shoulder the blame for what happened onto other people and his unwillingness to pay for the injured girl's medical care," the Muslim organizations said in their letter.
The organizations' leadership also sent several letters to the Russian authorities, calling on them to "prosecute the Russian diplomat, as well as to give an ethical and legal assessment of the work of Russian Ambassador to Kazakhstan M. Bocharnikov and Russian Consul General to Alma-Ata B. Meshchaninov."
For his part, a Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman said, referring to experts' tentative conclusions, that the incident at Alma-Ata's amusement park could have happened because electric cars were rented from private individuals who did not have a license and failed to meet all of the necessary safety requirements.
