(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Welcoming the end of Hosni Mubarak’s rule in Egypt, leader of Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Shah Geelani called upon the world community to support Kashmiris as it did the Egyptian people in their uprising.

“This historic event can presage major transformations at the international level, and begin the end of regimes backed by imperialist forces,” Geelani today said, stressing that Kashmiris should emulate the organisation and discipline of the Egyptian people whose conduct held the lesson of “peaceful and dignified struggles being far more effective than chaotic and disorderly turmoil.”

Lauding the Egyptian masses, Geelani said in a statement that the new dispensation should aim at changing the system and not merely personalities, and that utmost effort must be made to institute a just system.

“The revolution in Egypt, coming soon after that in Tunisia, signals that the era of domination and supremacy of exploitative forces is going to end soon, and that the aspirations and sentiments of the masses cannot be kept suppressed for long,” he said.

“This change is encouraging for all suppressed and crushed peoples of the world, and brings good tidings for Kashmiris also,” he said.

'The world should not be apprehensive about pro-Islam forces in any way, because the very purpose of Islam is to institute peace and prosperity in the world, remove inequalities amongst people and lay the foundations of a world brotherhood,” he said.

“Islam wants to establish a system based on justice and equality, and a true Muslim harbours the sentiments of love and affection for entire humanity,” he said.

“Several Muslim majority areas of the world are under foreign military occupation, and the people are waging a struggle against this injustice.

Unpleasant events taking place during this unorganised struggle are unfortunately attributed to Islam in an attempt to tarnish the image of all Muslims,” he said.

“It is necessary to rise above all prejudice and study Islamic literature for a better understanding of Islam, and to hold inter-faith conferences at the international level,” he said.

“The most urgent need of the hour is to bridge the gulf between Muslims and Europe, and for that it is necessary to end excesses against Muslims and support the withdrawal of foreign forces where people have been enslaved by military might,” he said.
