ABNA24 - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein held a phone conversation on Thursday to discuss the latest developments in the region following the ceasefire agreement between Iran and the US.
During the phone call, Araghchi and Hussein exchanged their views on the mutual relations, latest developments in the region following the announcement of ceasefire between Iran and US brokered by Pakistan.
Iran’s top diplomat appreciated the firm positions of Iraqi Marja, government and people in expressing sympathy, solidarity with Iran, as well as condemnation of the military aggression of the United States and the Zionist regime against the Iranian nation.
Araghchi explained Iran's responsible approach in accepting the mediators' proposal for a ceasefire to prepare for negotiations to completely end the war, stating, “Given the US’s repeated reneging on its commitments, the world is watching the US performance with pessimism."
Condemning the Zionist regime's aggression against Lebanon and killing of hundreds of people, the Iranian foreign minister noted, “Ceasing Israel's military aggression against Lebanon was part of the Iran-US ceasefire proposal which has also been emphasized by the Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif as mediator."
He termed the Israel's attacks on Lebanon and killing of hundreds of people ‘a criminal act to perpetuate the war in the region and destroy diplomacy’, the consequences of which will be borne by the United States.
The foreign minister of Iraq, for his part, welcomed the cessation of the war and military aggression by the US and the Israeli regime against Iran, expressing hope that this ceasefire will lead to a complete and irreversible end to the war and restoration of peace and stability in the region.
