AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The United Nations Security Council, following a veto by Russia and China, was unable to adopt the draft resolution submitted by Bahrain regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
The Al Jazeera news network reported on Tuesday evening, "The United Nations Security Council failed to adopt the draft Bahraini resolution on the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz."
This failure came after Russia and China exercised their veto power.
The UN Security Council convened on Tuesday evening to vote on the Strait of Hormuz resolution.
According to the latest draft resolution, "Countries interested in using commercial sea routes in the Strait of Hormuz are strongly urged to coordinate their defensive and proportionate efforts with one another to help ensure the safety and security of navigation."
The previous version of the draft resolution stated that member states "are permitted to use all necessary and proportionate defensive means for at least six months to secure transit through the Strait of Hormuz."
This change was made to prevent a potential veto by Russia and China, but it still failed to pass.
