AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): With the intensification of Israeli attacks on Lebanon and the escalation of battles in southern Lebanon between Israeli forces and resistance fighters, the town of Bint Jbeil and its surrounding villages, including Maroun al-Ras, Ainata, and Aytaroun, have once again become the scene of conflict. This area is the convergence point of what is known as the "Freedom Triangle."
According to a report by the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar, this location is well known to residents of the region, as it witnessed the fiercest battles during the July 2006 war, when Israeli forces attempted to advance toward the town of Bint Jbeil. So much so that people no longer used conventional maps to find locations; it was enough to say “Freedom Triangle”, a point that intertwines geography and memory, encapsulating the narrative of a decades-long conflict.
South of Bint Jbeil, this triangle is formed by the convergence of the town of Bint Jbeil and the villages of Ainata and Aytaroun near the border line known as the “Blue Line” with Israel, becoming a sensitive strategic and military node. Its geographical position, characterized by complex mountainous terrain, overlooking hills, and winding paths, poses significant challenges for any attacking force, particularly as it leads to routes connecting to the Litani River and border areas. For this reason, the area has consistently been the scene of clashes and attacks, establishing itself as one of the key points in the confrontation with Israel.
The “Freedom Triangle” is not merely a historical symbol but has become a key point in the conflict equation on Lebanon's southern borders. The combination of complex geography, military fortifications, and the experience of resistance forces has transformed this area into a decisive factor in the course of military operations.
