Grand Ayatollah Modarresi: Iranians Drawing on Karbala Spirit Stand Firm in “Ramadan War”

A prominent Iraqi cleric, Ayatollah Sayyid Mohammad Taqi al-Modarresi, says the Iranian nation has drawn inspiration from the spirit of Karbala to remain steadfast in the ongoing conflict, sacrificing lives while achieving success on the battlefield.

ABNA24 - A prominent Iraqi cleric, Ayatollah Sayyid Mohammad Taqi al-Modarresi, says the Iranian nation has drawn inspiration from the spirit of Karbala to remain steadfast in the ongoing conflict, sacrificing lives while achieving success on the battlefield.

Speaking during his weekly lecture to seminary students in Karbala, the senior scholar emphasized that Muslim nations—particularly the Iranian people—have taken Imam Husayn ibn Ali (PBUH) as a model in both ethics and action, inspired by his historic stand and sacrifice.

He said this inspiration has translated into resilience and resistance, enabling the Iranian nation to confront major global powers despite what he described as its past classification among developing countries.

Ayatollah al-Modarresi pointed to slogans chanted by Iranians during their confrontation with the United States and Israel, saying they reflect a deep sense of awareness and sincerity. “Husayn is our slogan, martyrdom is our honor,” he quoted, describing such expressions as evidence of a profound transformation in public consciousness.

The cleric stressed that history will record the steadfastness of Muslim nations in the face of global arrogance, noting that many other nations have failed to demonstrate similar resolve.

He attributed the victory of the Muslim nation to the revival of a deeper spiritual essence—one that energizes societies, clarifies priorities, and removes secondary concerns that hinder collective will.

Elaborating further, Ayatollah al-Modarresi said this renewed spirit reflects a revival of faith, which he described as the core essence of all religious practice. He added that true understanding of religion goes beyond outward forms, emphasizing depth of comprehension over superficial observance.

In his concluding remarks, the cleric said guiding societies toward the essence of faith, knowledge, and struggle would ultimately lead to success, enabling the establishment of justice and peace.
