AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi criticized the government over India’s trade deal with the United States.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha, Owaisi said, “In the executive order issued by Trump on February 6, Section 4 is mentioned. It means that if India directly or indirectly buys oil from Russia, they will impose a 25 percent tariff again. Who are they to decide from whom we should buy oil? We gained independence so that no one sitting elsewhere can dictate to us. I will buy oil from whomever I want. Who are you to tell us? Are you our masters?”
Owaisi said, “It is unfortunate that the government is silent. In 2019, they (USA) said do not buy oil from Iran — it was a mistake not to buy Iranian oil. At that time, America said buy oil at competitive rates. Now it is saying buy oil at monopoly rates. Why are we lowering ourselves so much?”
Warning about the risk of de-industrialization due to the trade deal, he added, “Are you signing a Free Trade Agreement or a Forced Purchase Agreement? We supply 70 percent of Bangladesh’s cotton needs. Now America has said that if Bangladesh buys cotton from them, the tariff will be zero. What will happen to the powerloom industries in Bhiwandi, Malegaon, and Varanasi?”
