On the occasion of the 47th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution of Iran, Maulana Syed Safdar Hussain Zaidi, Director of Jamia Imam Jafar Sadiq (AS) and President of Imambargah Jaunpur (India), said that 22 Bahman (11 February) is not only an important day in Iran’s history, but has also become a symbol of hope for the oppressed people of the world and a sign of Islamic honor and courage. He said this day deserves to be remembered for its historical importance.
Maulana Syed Safdar Hussain Zaidi said that throughout human history, many days are forgotten with time, but some days remain alive forever because of their importance and impact. One such day is 22 Bahman 1979 (11 February), which changed not only the Middle East but also the global political and ideological landscape. On this day, a 2,500-year-old monarchy in Iran came to an end and a people-based Islamic system was established. This event openly challenged the arrogance of colonial powers.
He said that in the twentieth century, it was widely believed that no country could survive without the support of the United States or major world powers. At that time, Iran’s royal system was considered the strongest ally of Western powers in the region. However, 22 Bahman proved this belief wrong and showed that faith, public unity, and determination can defeat material power.
Revival of Islamic dignity and independence
Maulana Zaidi said that for a long time, the Islamic world remained intellectually and politically influenced by the West, creating an atmosphere of disappointment. But the revolution of 22 Bahman sent a clear message that Islam is not limited to a few rituals; it is a complete way of life that provides guidance in politics, economics, and society as well.
The slogan “Neither East nor West” reminded Muslims of their true identity and independence.
A light of hope for the oppressed of the world
He said that the success of this revolution gave inspiration to freedom movements across the world—whether in Palestine, Lebanon, or deprived regions of Africa—by proving that powerful forces can be challenged through strong determination and unity. That is why oppressed people around the world still see this revolution as a source of hope.
A story of courage and dignity
Maulana Zaidi said that one of the most important features of this revolution was that it was a purely popular movement without any foreign support. It was led by Imam Khomeini (RA), who had neither an army nor weapons, but his courage and determination removed fear from the hearts of the people. This spirit of resistance transformed Iran into a strong and dignified nation.
He said that 22 Bahman clearly declares that when a nation stands against oppression with trust in Allah, success becomes its destiny. This day teaches us that honor is not found in compromise, but in standing firm for the truth and resisting injustice. Courage does not mean the absence of fear; it means standing firm for what is right.
True honor, he said, lies in worshipping Allah and serving His creation, as stated in the Quran:
“If you help the cause of Allah, He will help you.”
