Baghdad Friday Prayer Leader: Iran's Response in War with US Will Be Extensive

Ayatollah Sayyed Yasin al-Mousawi, the Friday Prayer Leader of Baghdad and a prominent scholar of the Najaf Seminary, has called on Iraqi politicians not to surrender to American pressures, emphasizing that Iraq must act in line with its national interests. He also warned regarding the regional situation that in the event of a US conflict with Iran, the Islamic Republic's response would be comprehensive.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Ayatollah Sayyed Yasin al-Mousawi, the Friday Prayer Leader of Baghdad and a prominent scholar of the Najaf Seminary, has called on Iraqi politicians not to surrender to American pressures, emphasizing that Iraq must act in line with its national interests. He also warned regarding the regional situation that in the event of a US conflict with Iran, the Islamic Republic's response would be comprehensive.

Ayatollah al-Mousawi stated that the world is witnessing unprecedented political and security turmoil, identifying the current US administration under President Donald Trump as the main factor exacerbating international crises. He described Trump's approach as "arrogantly imperialistic," threatening global peace and the sovereignty of countries, particularly Iraq and Iran.

In his Friday sermon in Baghdad, he stated: "The developments of the past week show that the international system has entered a dangerous phase; a phase in which decisions about war and peace are tied to Trump's personality and his individualistic tendency for domination."

Ayatollah al-Mousawi added: "The US president behaves with a 'pharaoh-like mentality of the age,' relying on the military and economic power of the United States to threaten weaker countries with defeat or surrender."

The Baghdad Friday Prayer Leader sharply criticized Washington's handling of domestic protests, noting: "America suppresses protesters and even kills some of them without facing real condemnation from Western countries; countries that have 'double standards' on the issue of human rights."

He continued: "There is also widespread opposition within the United States that considers Trump mentally unfit for leadership, but he pays attention to nothing but his own will."

Ayatollah al-Mousawi emphasized: "The problem is not solely Trump the person, but the 'American deep state' that pursues the same hegemonic approach, and the ruling Republican party, albeit with different methods, is moving on the same path."

Regarding Iraq, the Baghdad Friday Prayer Leader described Trump's recent threats against the country as "blatant interference in national sovereignty" and warned that the transfer of terrorist elements from Syria to Iraq could be a prelude to re-igniting confrontation with ISIS, taking place within frameworks aimed at destabilizing the country.

He also clarified that the supreme religious Marja’iyyah (religious authority) has not yet announced its official position on recent political developments, and everyone must await and adhere to its statement, as the Marja’iyyah is "the leader of the Ummah and the reference for religious decision-making."

Ayatollah al-Mousawi called on Iraqi politicians not to surrender to American pressure and stressed that they must act solely in the interests of Iraq.

He added: "Iraq remains practically under American influence, and liberation from this situation is only possible by building a strong and independent government."

Ayatollah al-Mousawi then addressed the Iran dossier, describing it as the main axis of global conflict, and said: "The Islamic Republic of Iran is the 'third equation' between East and West, and its collapse would return the world to the traditional duality of conflict."

Referring to the deployment of tens of thousands of US forces in the region, the Baghdad Friday Prayer Leader assessed the US Secretary of State's remarks as an implicit admission of Iran's power and the danger of confronting it. He reported warnings from Turkey and some Persian Gulf states about the possibility of a comprehensive regional war that would threaten oil security and political stability.

He warned that in the event of a direct conflict with Iran, the region could be pushed towards a widespread, even global, war, and emphasized: "Iran's response will be 'comprehensive' and will encompass all US bases in the region, including its naval fleet."
