AhlulBayt News Agency: The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Copenhagen, criticizing the biased narrative of the Danish publication Berlingske regarding the recent protests and unrest in Iran, stated that no nation, including Iran, will tolerate riots, destruction of public and private property, terrorist acts, targeting of law enforcement personnel, or any action that endangers public life.
The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Copenhagen expressed its deep regret over the loss of life of a number of Iranians during the recent demonstrations—which subsequently turned into riots through the interference of Mossad, the CIA, and elements of terrorist groups—and offers its condolences to all those who lost their loved ones.
In response to the incomplete and unilateral narrative presented in Western media, including the editorial of Berlingske on Monday, January 26, 2026, the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Denmark provides the following response, which we expect to be published on the same page of the publication:
In late December 2025, significant fluctuations in the value of the Iranian currency, the Rial, led to demonstrations by market merchants, particularly those active in the electronics import sector.
These demonstrations were entirely peaceful and served as an expression of grievances—a legitimate right guaranteed to all Iranian citizens for peaceful protest under the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Between December 28 and 30, during the initial phase, the peaceful protests were primarily concentrated in the Tehran Bazaar area. The government immediately initiated a dialogue with representatives of the protesting groups. Similar sporadic protests expressing related economic concerns also occurred in several provinces during this period.
However, in the second phase, the nature of the demonstrations shifted with the emergence of new actors. At this stage, the protests were driven toward violence.
Law enforcement personnel exercised maximum restraint in their efforts to de-escalate tensions and prevent further unrest. From January 8 to 10, the involvement of terrorist elements and armed groups—who were distributing weapons among protesters—made it clear that a new plot was underway.
This plot aimed to divert peaceful protests from their original path, steering them toward violence, bloodshed, and chaos.
These armed elements opened fire on the police and other law enforcement officers.
It became evident that they were targeting not only security forces but also innocent civilians, with the sole objective of maximizing casualties.
This escalation occurred following a statement by the President of the United States, which constituted blatant interference in Iran's internal affairs.
By announcing a possible attack on Iran in the event of a conflict, his remarks increased the risk of further inflaming the situation.
Accordingly, those seeking to incite unrest pursued a strategy of increasing casualties in the hope of provoking US intervention.
Iranian authorities have gained access to recorded voice messages in which instructions are given: "Shoot at the crowd; if you can hit the police, do it; if you cannot, shoot ordinary civilians—man, woman, or the youth standing in front of you. What matters is that the death toll increases and more blood is shed."
Iran is a multi-ethnic country, a characteristic that some foreign intelligence services have sought to exploit by recruiting agents from within these communities.
