Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h), Comprehensive Model for Modern Global Civilization: American Scholar

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Dr. Mohammad Legenhausen, a professor at the Imam Khomeini Educational and Research Institute, described Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h) as a complete model for shaping a modern Islamic civilization, emphasizing the importance of ‘Jihad Tabyin’ (struggle for clarification), creating a comprehensive and unified community, and moral and social resistance as fundamental principles of this civilizational movement.

The meeting, titled “Prophet of Mercy (p.b.u.h): Inspiration for Global Dialogue,” was organized by the Office of Studies, Research, and Science of the Scientific and Cultural Deputy of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly, in collaboration with the ABNA International News Agency and the Al-Mustafa International Short-Term Training Center.

Dr. Legenhausen, a Muslim scholar and American resident of Qom, emphasized that “Jihad Tabyin” is one of the most important tools for civilization-building by Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h), and that this concept has a special place in the AhlulBayt (a.s.) school.

“The Prophet was able to establish the foundations of a moral, cultural, and social civilization through ‘jihad Tabyin’,” he said, “and transmit his teachings to all humans.”

The professor highlighted the main characteristics of the Prophet’s civilizational movement, noting that it had two distinct axes: the creation of a unified and comprehensive community that was fundamentally different from previous societies and was not limited to specific individuals or places; and cultural and social resistance, which enabled the Prophet to establish a dynamic, just, and elevated society.

“The Islamic community of the Prophet not only includes all Muslims but also followers of other religions,” he explained. “The concept of ‘Ummah’ in Islam encompasses all humans, and this comprehensive approach establishes the foundation of Islamic civilization on cohesion, solidarity, and social justice.”

Dr. Legenhausen also emphasized the importance of resistance in the Prophet's civilizational movement, stating that it includes both internal struggle against one's own weaknesses and external resistance against ignorance, oppression, and tyranny.

“The Prophet's civilizational movement was not limited to political or economic structures,” he said. “It was a combination of ethics, culture, education, social cohesion, and resistance that encompassed all aspects of individual and collective life, providing a comprehensive model for a modern global civilization.”

In conclusion, Dr. Legenhausen stated that Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h) is a complete example of a civilizational leader, and that his moral, cultural, and social teachings can serve as a model for a modern global civilization.

“Jihad al-tabyin and resistance are essential tools for the continuation of this civilization,” he emphasized. “The Islamic community must always adhere to these principles.”
