Iran FM Araghchi Hails Iraq for Hosting Arbaeen Pilgrims

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi hailed Iraq for hosting Iran’s pilgrims traveling to the Arab country.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi hailed Iraq for hosting Iran’s pilgrims traveling to the Arab country.

Speaking at a joint press conference with the visiting Iraqi foreign minister in Tehran on Sunday, Araghchi noted that millions of Iranians travel to Iraq to visit holy sites on various occasions, especially during the month of Muharram and during the Arbaeen procession.

Arbaeen is a religious event observed by Shia Muslims on the fortieth day after the Day of Ashura, commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the third Shia imam.

It is one of the largest annual pilgrimages in the world, with millions of Shia Muslims, as well as many Sunnis and followers of other religions, walking to Karbala from various cities in Iraq and neighboring countries.

Elsewhere in his remarks at the press conference, Araghchi referred to the growing ties between the two sides, saying the borders of Iran and Iraq have turned into the borders of friendship and cooperation in various economic, social and political fields.

He described Iraq’s regional role as growing and said the Iraqi officials have proven that they can play a positive role in promoting dialogue and resolving issues by using political and diplomatic capacities.

The top diplomat also thanked Iraq for its support and solidarity with the Iranian people during the recent unrest in the country.

Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, for his part, said he and Araghchi have weighed plans to enhance relations between the two nations.

Hussein said he has been briefed on the internal situation in Iran, stressing that security in Iran and Iraq is linked with the regional security.

He added that the officials of a number of regional countries have made it clear before his visit to Iran that the security of the whole region is integrated. He stressed that a series of views have been evaluated about how to deal with the regional developments.

Iraq emphasizes the principle of inseparability of regional security, he added, stressing that stability in each nation would guarantee the security of other neighbors.

He rejected any foreign interference in the domestic affairs of countries, calling for constant consultations to address the regional challenges.
