Sheikh Ramazani: Ashura is spirit of Islamic Revolution and a prelude to global awakening

Hujjat al-Islam Reza Ramezani, Secretary General of the World Assembly of Ahlul Bayt (AS) and member of the Assembly of Experts, described Ashura as a living miracle in the heart of human history, emphasizing its enduring spiritual and revolutionary influence on the Islamic world and beyond.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Hujjat al-Islam Reza Ramezani, Secretary General of the World Assembly of Ahlul Bayt (AS) and member of the Assembly of Experts, described Ashura as a living miracle in the heart of human history, emphasizing its enduring spiritual and revolutionary influence on the Islamic world and beyond.

Speaking at a memorial ceremony for martyr Jafar Gholami, held at the Wali Asr Mosque (AS) in the village of Nokhaleh in Soumeh Sara, Professor Ramezani underscored the deep connection between the Islamic Revolution and the eternal message of Ashura.

“Ashura is not merely a verbal miracle—it is a miracle in action, one that continues to move human hearts over 13 centuries later. No historical event has had such profound, lasting impact.”

Quoting the will of martyr Gholami— “We have given our heads to God… Let the enemies know that when they martyr us, they are actually freeing us”—Ramezani praised the deep-rooted faith of Iran’s martyrs, stating that their sacrifice was nurtured by the teachings of Ashura.

“The school of Imam Hussein (AS) is the spiritual engine of the Islamic Revolution. It is a movement that continues to inspire resistance, truth, and revival across generations.”

Highlighting the growing global presence of Ashura commemorations, Professor Ramezani noted that the number of Islamic centers in Germany alone has surged from 50 to over 2,700 since the Islamic Revolution.

“Tens of thousands participate in mourning processions in Germany, Denmark, and the UK. In London alone, over 200 Ashura gatherings are held in the first ten days of Muharram. The name of Imam Hussein (AS) now echoes in the heart of Europe and America—this is no less than a prelude to a global spiritual revolution.”

He also referenced historical hadiths about the continued divine presence in Karbala:

“Four thousand angels are still stationed at the grave of Imam Hussein (AS), seeking forgiveness for his pilgrims.”

On the significance of Arbaeen, Ramezani said:

“From the time of Jaber ibn Abdullah Ansari to the era of oppression under rulers like Moutawakel and Saddam, the Arbaeen pilgrimage has endured. Today, it draws over 20 million pilgrims to Karbala—the world’s largest religious gathering, even surpassing the Hajj in scale.”

He pointed to this phenomenon as a symbol of cross-cultural unity, citing statements from non-Muslims who say, “Hussein is our Imam.”

Ramezani warned against the dangers of societal ignorance:

“Wherever ignorance spreads, humiliation, colonialism, and exploitation follow. The tragedy of Ashura was the result of religious elites and the public failing in their moral and religious responsibilities.”

Rejecting misconceptions, he clarified that Imam Hussein’s (AS) uprising was not for worldly power or personal gain.

“Imam Hussein (AS) rose to revive the true values of Islam: prayer, zakat, enjoining good, and forbidding evil. His revolution was a divine mission, not political ambition.”

Concluding his remarks, he emphasized the clarity of the Imam’s stance against tyranny:

“Imam Hussein declared: ‘Someone like me will never pledge allegiance to someone like Yazid.’ This is the unchanging voice of resistance that still guides us today.”
