Iran’s retaliation seen as deterrence inspired by Imam Hussein - Iraqi analyst

Iraqi analyst Alaa al-Khatib called Iran’s 12-day retaliation to Israeli attacks a strategic game-changer that restored confidence in Muslim resistance.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Iraqi political analyst and writer Alaa al-Khatib described Iran’s military response to Israel’s June 13 offensive as a pivotal moment in regional dynamics, likening its inspiration to the uprising of Imam Hussein (AS).

He noted that Iran’s retaliation—which involved missile and drone strikes on occupied Palestinian territories—compelled Israel to seek a ceasefire after 12 days of confrontation.

In an interview with IQNA, al-Khatib said this assertive reaction restored morale and confidence among Muslims and oppressed communities worldwide.

According to him, Iran’s strikes acted as a strong deterrent, sending a message not only from Iran but also from the wider Muslim world. He claimed the response shattered the perception of Israeli military dominance.

He emphasized that Iran has now firmly established itself as a regional military power, with domestically developed weapons instilling fear in rivals and compelling global recognition.

Al-Khatib asserted that Iran’s actions were consistent with Article 51 of the UN Charter, which affirms the right to self-defense, and noted that countries like Turkey, Russia, and Pakistan supported Iran’s stance.

He also accused Israel of violating international laws by targeting non-military areas, stating that they underestimated Iran’s will to respond.

Citing Imam Hussein (AS) as a source of moral resistance, al-Khatib said Iran’s defiance symbolized broader resistance across the Muslim world.

He urged organizations like the UN Security Council, the Arab League, and the OIC to go beyond verbal condemnation and take concrete political action.
