AhlulBayt News Agency: Admiral Ali Shamkhani, senior advisor to Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, emphasized the importance of constant vigilance and strengthening Iran’s military capabilities to counter external threats. In a televised interview on Sunday, he shared details of the failed Israeli assassination attempt against him on June 13.
Shamkhani, who was seriously injured in the attack, warned against trusting negotiations with the United States. He said Tehran had always known that indirect talks with Washington were not sincere and were instead used to destabilize Iran internally.
He praised the Iranian people’s wisdom and unity in the face of adversity, describing their response as a sign of deep awareness rather than mere emotion. He said this solidarity reflects a clear understanding of the enemy’s goals and Iran’s strategic importance.
Shamkhani stressed that Iran’s leadership was fully prepared for any scenario, with all military operations executed according to pre-planned strategies. He said this readiness demonstrates Iran’s strong defense posture.
He revealed that during the Israeli airstrike on his home in Tehran, he was trapped under rubble for three hours. Initially thinking it was an earthquake, he realized it was a targeted attack when he heard a car outside—something unlikely during a quake.
Despite his injuries, Shamkhani said he remained conscious and immediately began planning how to survive. He noted that past threats had mentally prepared him for such a moment.
He added that his wife and son were also injured in the attack. Due to oxygen pressure and shock, he was unable to speak clearly at the time. He denied Israeli claims that his legs were amputated, saying he suffered internal injuries but remained intact.
Shamkhani said he knows why Israel targeted him but cannot disclose the reason yet. “I had taught them a harsh lesson,” he remarked.
He made his first public appearance since the attack at the funeral of 60 martyrs killed during the 12-day Israeli-US aggression. Israeli media had falsely reported that he was killed in the initial strike.
