Iran files protest with UN over US-Israeli attacks on civilians

Iran submitted a formal protest to the UN over US-Israeli strikes that killed 627 people and damaged civilian infrastructure.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Iran has submitted an official protest letter to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights over the recent US-Israeli military aggression, which resulted in hundreds of civilian deaths and widespread damage to infrastructure.

The letter was delivered by Nasser Seraj, head of Iran’s High Council for Human Rights, to Volker Türk, the UN rights chief, on Friday.

According to Iran’s Health Ministry, the attacks that began on June 13 killed 627 people and injured 4,870 others before a unilateral ceasefire was declared 12 days later.

Iran’s protest described the strikes as a “clear violation” of international law, human rights law, and humanitarian law.

The letter detailed that Israeli attacks targeted the IRIB headquarters, healthcare centers, Evin Prison, and both urban and rural residential areas.

It also stated that several nuclear scientists were killed in their homes during the strikes on residential buildings.

Iran’s rights body condemned the aggression for violating basic rights such as the right to life, security, and access to medical care.

It further accused Israel of violating protections against psychological torture and freedom of speech, citing threats to civilians and attacks on media institutions.

The protest also criticized Israel for breaching the principles of distinction, proportionality, and precaution by failing to warn civilians and targeting non-military sites.

Iran condemned the US not only for its own attacks on nuclear facilities but also for providing intelligence and operational support to Israel.

The letter urged the United Nations to register all violations, launch investigations, involve special rapporteurs, and ensure accountability for both Israel and the US.
