Arizona suspect confesses to crucifying pastor in religiously motivated killing

Adam Sheafe confessed to crucifying Pastor William Schonemann in Arizona and revealed a hit list of 14 religious leaders.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Adam Christopher Sheafe, a 51-year-old man with extremist views, confessed in a jailhouse interview to crucifying an elderly pastor in Arizona, claiming he seeks “redemption.”

The victim, 76-year-old William “Bill” Schonemann, leader of the New River Bible Chapel, was found dead in his home on April 28, 2025, with a crown of thorns on his head and his arms pinned in a crucifixion-like pose.

Sheafe admitted to having a hit list of at least 14 Christian leaders across 10 U.S. states, whom he accused of misleading their congregations.

He said his actions were part of “Operation First Commandment,” driven by his obsession with the Old Testament and rejection of Christian teachings. He expressed no remorse, calling churches promoters of a “false god”.

Sheafe was arrested near the Chapel of the Holy Cross in Sedona, Arizona, where he allegedly planned to kill two more priests.

In his statement, he declared, “Not only do I have zero remorse… I will execute every single priest and burn every single church to the ground”.

He is currently detained at Coconino County Jail, facing charges including burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle, and aggravated assault. Authorities in Maricopa County are preparing murder charges.
