New Hagia Sophia Mosque opens in Paris with Turkish support

A new mosque named after Hagia Sophia was inaugurated in Paris with the presence of Turkish religious leader Ali Erbaş.

AhlulBayt News Agency: A new mosque named after Istanbul’s Hagia Sophia was officially inaugurated in Paris on Sunday, marking a significant addition to the city’s growing network of Islamic places of worship.

The opening ceremony was attended by Ali Erbaş, President of Türkiye’s Directorate of Religious Affairs, according to Turkish media reports.

Organizers described the mosque as a spiritual counterpart to Istanbul’s Hagia Sophia Mosque, symbolizing unity and cultural continuity for Muslims in Europe.

During the ceremony, Erbaş highlighted the historical role of mosques in Islam, referencing the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) establishment of Masjid an-Nabawi in Medina as a model of community and faith.

He emphasized that mosques are central to fostering “community, unity, and peace,” calling them “the most important centers of civilization.”

Erbaş also cited a hadith stating that a true Muslim is one from whom others feel safe in both speech and action. He urged attendees to embody these values and stressed the role of mosques in teaching ethics like honesty and compassion.

Following his speech, Erbaş led the ribbon-cutting ceremony and the noon prayer, offering a prayer of gratitude.

He thanked all those who contributed to the mosque’s construction and expressed hope that it would nurture the moral and spiritual development of future generations.
