Philippine Halal Trade and Tourism Expo set to open in Davao on June 18

Halal industries, including food, medical services, and tourism, have grown significantly worldwide. The Philippine Halal Trade and Tourism Expo aims to strengthen MSMEs and highlight economic opportunities in this sector.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The Philippine Halal Trade and Tourism Expo (PHTTE) is set to take place from June 18 to 20 at the SMX Convention Center in SM Lanang, Davao City.

The event will feature a diverse range of Halal foods and products from Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across the Philippines. Organizers aim to showcase the growing Halal industry and its market potential.

As an accredited sub-event of Duaw Davao, one of the major annual gatherings hosted by the Davao City Government, PHTTE seeks to unite industry leaders, stakeholders, academics, entrepreneurs, and consumers to foster discussions and economic opportunities in the Halal sector.

This year’s theme, "Showcasing Diverse Halal, Halal-Ready, and Friendly Markets of All Regions to the International Arena," highlights the commitment to expanding the Halal industry beyond local markets.

During a recent I-Speak Media Forum, Marilou Ampuan, Founding President of the Philippine Halal Advocacy Corporation, announced that the expo will feature three key events:

  1. Trade Fair, where businesses will display Halal-certified goods and services.
  2. Free Halal Medical Services, in partnership with the Department of Health, offering free consultations and essential medicines.
  3. Halal Global Academic Forum, featuring youth presentations, expert discussions, and Halal innovation pitches.

Ampuan emphasized that the global Halal market is valued at 7.2 trillion US dollars, making it a promising sector for MSMEs. To further support businesses, a Business Networking session will take place on the first day, allowing enterprises to seek investment and expansion opportunities.

She encouraged entrepreneurs to leverage this platform to explore Halal markets regionally, nationally, and internationally.

The Halal Global Academic Forum, co-hosted by the University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC) and Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) in academic partnership with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), aims to raise awareness of Halal standards and innovations within the education sector.

Ampuan highlighted Davao City’s role as a Halal hub, citing existing Halal ordinances, a dedicated Halal slaughterhouse, and numerous Halal-accredited establishments that have received national and regional recognition.
