AhlulBayt News Agency: A group of Iranian athletes, accompanied by Minister of Sports and Youth Ahmad Donyamali, visited Imam Khomeini’s mausoleum in Tehran on Sunday to reaffirm their commitment to the ideals of the late founder of the Islamic Republic.
According to IRNA, the ceremony brought together athletes from various disciplines along with several sports officials. The participants paid homage to Imam Khomeini and honored the memory of the martyrs of the Islamic Revolution and the Iran-Iraq war, known as the Sacred Defense.
During the event, Sayyed Hassan Khomeini, the custodian of the mausoleum and grandson of Imam Khomeini, delivered a speech highlighting the significance of sports in fostering national identity and pride. He also praised the accomplishments of Iranian female athletes, who have secured numerous medals in international competitions for the country.
Imam Khomeini passed away in 1989 at the age of 87 due to illness. His legacy continues to shape Iran’s political and cultural landscape, with annual ceremonies held to commemorate his contributions.
